OLD LYME · TRAIL GUIDE

Griswold Preserve

A shorter woodland outing beside Mill Brook and Lower Mill Pond. Griswold is part of our early pack-hike story, and it remains a useful reminder that a good trail day does not have to be a long one.

TOM’S FIELD NOTES

What matters on this walk.

Some of the early Tom’s Dogs pack outings happened here with Blanche, Emmett, Scully, and Zoey. More recently, Gracie and Kirby spent a shorter October visit exploring and playing. I care about what the dog gets from that time: comfortable movement, interest in the surroundings, and a pace that suits them.

FROM THE TRAIL DIARY

A day here with the pack.

Zoey appears in our story of the early pack outings at Griswold. The linked October 16 report is a more recent visit with Gracie and Kirby: 28 minutes, 0.9 miles, and time to explore together.

Terrain and pace

The land trust describes woodland, granite outcrops, vernal pools, and streamside areas near Lower Mill Pond. It rates the preserve easy, but wet ground and individual footing still deserve attention.

What I would plan around

Keep dogs away from wildlife and pond edges, carry water, and choose a shorter loop when that is the better fit. A quiet visit in one report does not guarantee an empty trail next time.
