GROTON · TRAIL GUIDE

Bluff Point State Park

A shoreline outing with woodland paths, salt-marsh scenery, and a real change of surroundings. This is a place to plan around your dog’s attention and comfort, not just the view at the end.

TOM’S FIELD NOTES

What matters on this walk.

Our September outing here combined a hike with time at the water. The useful part is the variety: moving together, stopping to investigate, then settling back into the walk. For a group, I care more about keeping that rhythm comfortable than reaching a particular photo spot.

FROM THE TRAIL DIARY

A day here with the pack.

Zoey joined Sasha, Wiggins, and Kirby on our September 18 outing. The report recorded 1.8 miles in 46 minutes on a warm, clear day, with photos from their time together by the water.

Terrain and pace

The main bluff loop is a multi-use gravel route. Smaller connecting trails can be more rugged. Expect to share the park with other walkers, cyclists, and horses.

What I would plan around

Bring water and plan for exposure near the shore. Leave room to shorten the outing if the heat, wind, or number of other trail users makes the day less comfortable for your dog.
